VonWeidlich Tractor Expressing the unique character of a cool climate vineyard on Goldridge soil, Robert Von Weidlich´s old vines — dry farmed, head pruned and low yielding — reside on a sun-drenched ridge top above the town of Occidental. Originally planted in 1937, they once again yielded a miniscule crop of concentrated fruit in this their seventieth year.

Piercing berry, briar, potpourri, mocha and white pepper aromas jump from the bright bouquet. A balanced and weighty midpalate previews the same balance and textural ripeness on the lengthy finish. Old–vine Zinfandel character dominates here, but with uncommon elegance. Will drink through at least 2014.

272 cases produced. $42 per bottle.

THE WINE ADVOCATE #187, February 2010
91 points
“From a 70-year old, dry-farmed Zinfandel vineyard, the 2007 Zinfandel von Weidlich is a full-bodied beauty displaying notes of blue and red fruits, pepper, spice, and earth with roasted herb and sweet raspberries in the background. This stunning Zinfandel should drink well for 3-5 years. ”

STEVEN TANZER'S INTERNATIONAL WINE CELLAR,

May/June 2009
94 points
“Inky ruby. Deep cherry, cassis and espresso aromas are complicated by dried flowers and herbs. Powerful, deeply concentrated cherry preserve and dark berry skin flavors are shockingly lithe, with a solid kick of minerals and white pepper adding urgency. Clean, focused and gently sweet on the endless finish, which strongly echoes the pepper note. This was the last vintage in which Eric Sussman had access to these dry-farmed vines, planted in 1937. ” — Josh Raynolds

THE WINE ADVOCATE #180, December 2008
(90–93) points
“There is one single-vineyard Zinfandel produced. The 2007 Zinfandel Von Weidlich looks to be a very promising Zinfandel, with a deep ruby/purple color and a big, sweet kiss of raspberry and cherry fruit intermixed with loamy soil notes, pepper, incense, and some roasted herbs. It is deep, full–bodied, supple, round generous Zinfandel.”
— Robert Parker
